Job summary

Duke Energy is seeking a Field Technician to support natural gas operations in the Wilmington area. Responsibilities include meter reads, installation and maintenance of meters, and responding to customer needs with safety and efficiency.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, valid driver’s license, and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather. Training and advancement opportunities are available within the O&M organization.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• 3 years related work experience for Tech III.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Basic computer knowledge in a Windows environment.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude is desirable.
• Two-year degree or technical certifications are recommended.
• One of: Plumbing License (P1/P2), Fuel Piping License/Journeyman, HVAC License, Electrical License (Limited or Full).
• Experience in customer service is preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
• Safety awareness is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform meter turn-ons and turn-offs.
• Read customer meters.
• Install meters and meter sets, including industrial meters.
• Light pilots, test and inspect appliances and gas equipment.
• Monitor for meter tampering and ensure secure installation.
• Locate gas lines and inspect/maintain farm tap stations.
• First responder to emergency/leak calls; evaluate and grade leaks.
• Assist in training service apprentices.
• Assist O&M group with line repairs; may perform leak surveys.
• Prepare unregulated estimates and maintain records.
• Repair/install temporary clamps on steel risers.
• Repair damaged ½” and ¾” plastic services.
• Clear pipelines and perform related duties as assigned.
