Graduate Assistant Research (GAR) assistantships require recipients to aid in the research with the department/professor to which they are assigned. Work may also include tasks such as assisting faculty with research, preparing reports, entering data or other responsibilities as assigned. The duties of a full-time GAR require a maximum of 20 hours of work per week.

Minimum GA requirements are:
  • Full/Conditional Admission to East Texas A&M University master's, specialist or doctoral program
  • A minimum of six hours of registration
  • Good academic standing
  • Successful completion of Responsible Conduct in Research and Scholarship training through CITI.

This application is for Fall 2026 GAR postings only. This job pool and all applications will be deleted at the end of Fall 2026. A new application must be submitted for the upcoming terms if you wish to be added to that GA pool.

Must be awarded federal or state work-study through Financial Aid May work up to 19 hours per week during the semester May work full-time during breaks and summer if returning in the fall Must not work during scheduled class times Positions are limited to the amount awarded and must follow program guidelines

Graduate assistantships offer opportunities to teach, conduct research, or assist in academic departments while continuing your graduate education.

To qualify, students must:
  • Be fully admitted to a graduate program (not provisional or non-degree)
  • Be in good standing with a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Be enrolled in courses each term of the assistantship
  • Meet specific credit hour and subject requirements for teaching or lab roles
  • Non-native English speakers must demonstrate language proficiency
  • Research assistants must complete Responsible Conduct in Research training
  • Work up to 20 hours per week, depending on the appointment
  • May have teaching or research assignments, or provide administrative support
