Job summary

J.B. Hunt Transport, Inc. is seeking a Manager Trainee in South Gate, CA, starting January.

The role develops management skills for a small driver count, including night/weekend shifts, with emphasis on safe freight movement, load planning, and top-tier customer service. Training covers DOT compliance and company policies while coordinating with drivers and customers to ensure smooth operations. Qualifications

• Minimum Qualification: High School Diploma/GED with up to 4 years of equivalent education, experience, and training and/or Bachelor's degree with ability to work across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends.
• Preferred Qualification: Bachelor's plus 1 year of or equivalent education, experience and training

Responsibilities

• Learn to build and maintain positive professional relationships with drivers and safe carriers.
• Fill in for absent personnel and on special projects related to fleet optimization and profitability.
• Learn personnel management including training and orientation of drivers and employees.
• Maximize efficiency of fleet operations, measure KPIs, and present customer reporting and financial analysis.
• Manage inventory, assets, and driver assignments to balance equipment.
• Perform payroll, budgeting, driver counseling, invoicing, and related admin tasks.
• Oversee yard operations, maintenance scheduling, and safety compliance.
• Coordinate with drivers, customers, and staff to resolve service issues and route planning.
