Job summary

Realta Fusion is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design beamline and fusion components for ultra-high vacuum environments. You will produce 3D models, technical drawings, and support structures, contributing to Hammir-DD reactor-scale development.

You will collaborate with engineering teams, perform statics, heat transfer, and fatigue analyses, and help plan fabrication, assembly, and testing of prototypes. Madison-based role with competitive compensation and benefits.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering; 3–5 years of experience.
• Proficient in 3D CAD design and SolidWorks, NX, Creo with PDM.
• Experience with FEA and hand calculations for static and thermal stresses.
• Ability to read and create mechanical drawings and P&IDs.
• Hands-on machine shop experience and fabrication methods.

Responsibilities

• Develop 3D models and drawings for beamline and fusion components for ultra-high vacuum.
• Design and develop mechanical fusion subsystems and components.
• Lead mechanical design analysis: stress, thermal, fatigue (FEA as needed).
• Plan lifting/rigging of heavy components and material handling.
• Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to fabricate, assemble, test.
• Provide hands-on support in fabrication and assembly of prototypes.
• Present technical work to teams and leadership.
• Support safety standards and foster inclusive culture.
