Job summary

Realta Fusion Inc. in Madison, WI is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer, Vacuum Systems to provide technical leadership across the design, development, and verification of ultra-high vacuum systems for our reactor-scale fusion platform.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with physicists and scientists, and drive complex mechanical initiatives. The role emphasizes 3D CAD, FEA, vacuum pumping technologies, bakeout, seals, materials selection, and integration with cryogenic and gas delivery

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field and 8+ years of experience.
• Extensive 3D CAD experience with SolidWorks/NX/Creo and PDM familiarity.
• Strong background in pressure vessels, heat transfer, and structural analysis using FEA tools.
• Deep vacuum technology knowledge including pumps, seals, bakeout, and large chambers.
• Ability to supervise small teams and communicate with researchers, engineers, and technicians.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, modeling, and validation of ultra-high vacuum systems and components.
• Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with physicists, engineers, and support staff.
• Oversee design reviews, vendor interfaces, and manufacturing execution.
• Develop and optimize vacuum conductance, pump-down modeling, and bakeout sequences.
• Interface with cryogenic and gas-delivery systems for integrated platforms.
