Type One Energy in Knoxville, TN is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer – PLC Control to design, develop, and implement PLC-based control systems for advanced stellarator technologies. You will work on control panel design, field instrumentation integration, and documentation to support complex equipment.

The role requires 5+ years in industrial control systems, proficiency with PLC hardware (Allen-Bradley, Siemens), and experience with electrical schematics and instrumentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years in industrial control systems.
• Experience designing electrical schematics, loop diagrams, and wiring diagrams.
• Hands-on with PLC hardware platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens).
• Familiarity with industrial instrumentation and signal standards (4–20 mA, HART, digital I/O).
• Ability to produce electrical design packages and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop PLC-based control systems, including hardware selection, I/O architecture, and panel integration.
• Create loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, and interconnection diagrams for instrumentation and control systems.
• Develop control panel/cabinet layouts, including component placement, power distribution, and thermal considerations.
• Specify and integrate field instrumentation with PLC systems.
• Produce and maintain electrical design packages, including schematics, cable schedules, BOMs, and installation details.
• Support hardware installation, checkout, and commissioning of control systems and instrumentation.
• Collaborate with technicians and engineers to ensure accurate panel builds and field wiring implementation.
• Perform I/O checkout, loop checks, and system validation testing.
• Troubleshoot hardware, wiring, and instrumentation issues during development and operations.
• Ensure designs meet safety, reliability, and regulatory requirements for nuclear/fusion environments.
• Support integration of control hardware with higher-level control and data systems (SCADA/DCS as applicable).
