Job summary

Type One Energy Group is seeking an Electrical Engineer – PLC Control in Knoxville, TN. You will design, develop, and implement PLC-based control systems and electrical hardware for our stellarator project, focusing on control panel design, instrumentation integration, and documentation for complex scientific equipment.

You’ll work with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, reliable, and maintainable control hardware.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or Controls Engineering.
• 5+ years in industrial control systems or instrumentation design.
• Experience designing electrical schematics, loop and wiring diagrams.
• Hands-on with control panel and cabinet layouts (AutoCAD/EPLAN).
• Experience with PLC hardware platforms (AB, Siemens).
• Familiarity with instrumentation (4–20 mA, 0–10V) and signals.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop PLC-based control systems with hardware selection and I/O architecture.
• Create drawings: loop, wiring, and interconnection diagrams for control systems.
• Develop control panel layouts and cable schedules; address power distribution and thermal needs.
• Integrate field instrumentation with PLC systems and produce design packages.
• Support installation, commissioning, and validation of control systems.
• Collaborate with technicians to ensure accurate panel builds and wiring.
• Ensure safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance for nuclear/fusion environments.
• Interface hardware with higher-level SCADA/DCS as applicable.
