Job summary

Type One Energy Group in Knoxville, TN offers a 12-week Summer Internship in Mechanical Engineering. You’ll work on design and development for fusion energy projects, with hands-on use of Siemens NX, ANSYS and COMSOL Multiphysics in a cutting-edge R&D setting.

You’ll model CAD parts, run simulations, and assist with fabrication and testing, collaborating with engineers and physicists. Eligible students pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or related fields are

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline
• Hands‑on experience with Siemens NX for modeling and drafting
• Strong understanding of mechanical design fundamentals and GD&T principles
• Familiarity with fabrication methods such as machining, welding, or assembly

Responsibilities

• Create and update 3D CAD models and drawings in Siemens NX
• Support mechanical design activities including concept generation and tolerance analysis
• Assist with mechanical assembly design, tooling design, and part integration
• Prepare models for simulation (defeaturing, meshing readiness)
• Perform structural and mechanical analyses in ANSYS for design validation
• Build and run thermal analyses in COMSOL Multiphysics
• Contribute to design reviews and documentation for manufacturability
• Collaborate with engineers across disciplines to support projects
