Job summary

Type One Energy Group, Inc. is seeking a Radio Frequency Engineering Summer Intern in Madison, WI. The role involves joining a mission-driven team to design and develop EM systems for fusion energy projects, with hands-on work using ANSYS, COMSOL, and MATLAB/Python for analysis.

You will collaborate with engineers and physicists, contribute to prototype testing, and learn RF design trade-offs in a cutting-edge R&D environment through a 12-week summer term (May 24 Start Date).

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or RF Engineering.
• Strong understanding of RF design fundamentals and principles.
• Coursework or project experience with EM modelling using Ansys, COMSOL, AWR or equivalent solver.
• Ability to critically evaluate simulation results, including mesh convergence and boundary conditions.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

• Design RF and optical components using tools such as COMSOL and ANSYS.
• Gain a deeper understanding of RF performance through analytical and numerical methods.
• Provide trade-off estimations using MATLAB or Python.
• Work with Vector Network Analyzers to measure RF performance of components.
• Assess multi-physics interactions such as plasma absorption or RF heating.
