Job summary

Metropolitan Warehouse & Delivery in Carson, CA is seeking a seasoned Furniture Repair Technician to inspect, repair, restore, and refinish a wide range of furniture and related items.

This role requires strong craftsmanship, attention to detail, and experience with wood, leather, fabric, ceramic, marble, metal, and other materials. When repairs are slow, you will support Crating by building crates and protective packaging for shipment.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in repairing wood, leather, fabric, ceramic, and metal furniture.
  • Ability to assess damage and select effective repair solutions.
  • Experience with crate building and shipping preparation is preferred.
  • Able to lift and move heavy furniture safely.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect furniture to identify damage and estimate repair time.
  • Repair, restore, refinish, and touch up various materials.
  • Repair leather, fabric, and upholstery issues.
  • Restore ceramics, marble, stone and metal furniture.
  • Disassemble and reassemble furniture safely.
  • Match stains, colors, textures for a customer-ready finish.
  • Document repairs and communicate with supervisors.
  • Assist Crating Department with crates and protective packaging.
  • Measure, cut, assemble crates, and secure materials.

Furniture Repair Technician
Position Summary

We are seeking a seasoned Furniture Repair Technician to inspect, repair, restore, and refinish a wide range of furniture and related items. This role requires strong craftsmanship, attention to detail, and experience working with multiple materials, including wood, leather, fabric, ceramic, marble, metal, and other materials commonly used in furniture construction.

When furniture repair workload is limited, this associate will support the Crating Department by assisting with the construction, assembly, and preparation of protective crates for shipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect furniture and related items to identify damage, determine repair methods, and estimate materials and time needed.
  • Repair, restore, refinish, and touch up wood furniture, including scratches, dents, chips, broken joints, veneer damage, water damage, and finish inconsistencies.
  • Repair leather and upholstered furniture, including tears, scratches, seams, padding, fabric damage, staining, and other cosmetic or structural concerns.
  • Repair or restore ceramic, marble, stone, metal, and other specialty furniture materials as appropriate.
  • Disassemble and reassemble furniture safely to complete repairs and ensure structural integrity.
  • Match stains, colors, finishes, textures, and materials to achieve a high-quality, customer-ready result.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, repair compounds, adhesives, stains, finishes, upholstery tools, and other equipment safely and effectively.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area; follow all company safety procedures and proper handling practices.
  • Document completed repairs, materials used, and any additional issues found during inspection.
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors and team members regarding repair needs, priorities, and completion status.
  • Assist the Crating Department during periods of low repair volume by building, assembling, reinforcing, and preparing crates and protective packaging for furniture and other items.
  • Help measure, cut, assemble, and secure crating materials while ensuring items are protected for transport.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience as a furniture repair technician, furniture refinisher, restoration specialist, upholsterer, or similar skilled trade professional.
  • Demonstrated experience repairing wood, leather, fabric, ceramic, marble, stone, metal, and other furniture materials.
  • Strong knowledge of furniture construction, finishes, adhesives, upholstery methods, and repair techniques.
  • Ability to accurately assess damage and select effective repair solutions.
  • Skilled in the safe use of hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
  • Experience with crate building, carpentry, packaging, or shipping preparation is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, craftsmanship, and quality standards.
  • Ability to lift, move, and position furniture and crating materials safely, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
Work Environment

This position works in a repair shop, warehouse, or production environment and may involve standing for extended periods, bending, lifting, using tools and equipment, and handling a variety of furniture materials. The Furniture Repair Technician must be flexible and willing to assist other departments, particularly Crating, as business needs require.
