Ashley Furniture HomeStore in your area is seeking an Outside Furniture Repair Technician to repair and refinish furniture at the distribution center and at customer homes. You will diagnose repair needs, perform parts replacement when needed, and deliver high-quality workmanship.

The role requires a High School Diploma, 1 year of furniture repair experience or equivalent, a valid driver's license, and the ability to read and write English.

Qualifications

• 1 year of furniture repair experience or equivalent.
• Read, understand, and write in English; additional languages beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers and respond to needs with empathy and courtesy.
• Determine if repair is needed and whether parts replacement is required.
• Repair furniture to like-new condition within the specified timeframe, including case goods, upholstery, fabric and leather.
• Clean stained or soiled furniture and mattresses.
• Safely operate hand and power tools (drills, impact drivers, multi-tools).
• Complete bench testing evaluations to validate skills.
• Mentor and support development of other technicians.
• Follow SOPs and report activities according to documentation.
• Ensure on-time travel to customer sites for repairs.
• Maintain the service vehicle and log updates; keep materials stocked.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Greet and interact Customers in an empathetic, courteous, and helpful manner; listening and responding promptly to Customer needs.
• Determine if furniture requires parts replacement and whether it is repairable to good stock.
• Repair damaged furniture to new condition in a specified timeframe, including but not limited to case goods (wood or manufactured material furniture), fabric and leather upholstery.
• Clean stained or soiled furniture and mattresses.
• Safe operation of hand and power hand tools, especially drills, impact drivers, and multi-tools.
• Complete bench testing evaluations for regular validation of skills.
• Support development and growth of other technicians.
• Follow instructions in documentation and reporting, including standard operating procedures and activity recording.
• Follow the planned route to ensure on-time arrival for Customer repairs.
• Report any incomplete or problem service calls to the Customer Response Team.
• Complete weekly vehicle maintenance and log updates as required.
• Maintain a clean and organized service vehicle, including maintaining required repair materials and supplies.
• Adhere to driving policy for company vehicles, including meeting annual MVR review requirements.
• Assists shop technicians with repairs as needed when required and available.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• High School Diploma.
• 1-year practical work experience in furniture repair including upholstery, leather repairs and wood refinishing OR similar experience working with other materials and completing color matching.
• Read, understand, and write in the English language; additional languages beneficial.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Ability to learn in-house computer programs.
• Valid Driver’s License and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record per company guidelines.

Physical Requirements

• Must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus to read reports, view computer screen, etc.
• Must be able to hear and understand speech to interact with others.
• Must be able to speak so that others will be able to understand.
• Will remain in a seated position for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to perform repetitive tasks with both hands to include keyboarding, handwriting, office/POS equipment and handheld equipment operation.
• Will remain on one’s feet in an upright position and move about on foot.
• Will bend, squat, stoop, kneel, crouch and reach at or above shoulder level.
• Will lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds and more with assistance.
• Will work predominately in a private home or retail establishment; occasional work at warehouse locations.
• Potential exposure to oil, latex, and spray paint, household chemicals, biological odors and household dusts; moderate office noise.
