Job summary

Hydro in Yankton, SD is seeking workers for furnace and casthouse operations. Starting at $20/hr with a $500 sign-on bonus and +$1/hr for night shift differential. Eligible for monthly profit sharing; roles involve weighing charges, charging furnaces, removing debris, and ensuring safe operation.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally with all employees.
• Self-motivated and willing to learn new tasks and processes.

Responsibilities

• Accurately weigh furnace charges and identify scrap alloys.
• Operate chargers to load scrap metal into furnaces.
• Remove foreign material during charger filling.
• Flux furnaces by mixing metal with argon gas.
• Operate chargers without damaging furnace refractory.
• Complete paperwork for recording charges and inspection reports.
• Follow procedures to charge furnaces to avoid explosions.
• Burn samples on spectrometer and calculate alloy additions.
• Alloy furnaces by weighing and mixing alloys.
• Ensure metal temperature is correct for pit crew.
• Unload scrap trailers and inspect scrap during unloading.
• Assist log saw when needed.

Hourly rate

Starting Rate of pay:

$20/hr.
$500 Sign-on bonus
+$1/hour for night shift differential
Eligible for monthly profit sharing.(With profit sharing, earnings can increase by ~$1.50–$3.00/hour.)

What you will be doing

• Accurately weigh up furnace charges and identify different scrap alloys.
• Operate chargers to charge scrap metal into furnaces.
• Removing of foreign material (steel wire, bands, cardboard, wood, etc.) while filling chargers.
• Fluxing of furnaces (mixing metal in furnace with argon gas).
• Operate chargers without damaging furnace refractory.
• Properly fill out paperwork for recoding of charges and inspection reports.
• Follow proper procedure for charging furnaces to avoid molten metal Explosions.
• Burn samples on spectrometer and calculate additions for different alloys.
• Alloying furnaces (weighing and mixing of alloys into furnaces).
• Making sure metal in furnaces is at proper temperature for pit crew.
• Unloading of scrap trailers, railroad cars, and inspection of scrap while unloading.
• Help on log saw when needed.
