Job summary

Hydro in Yankton, SD, is seeking workers for the Casthouse B Nights shift. Responsibilities include safety-first operations, learning to operate forklifts, overhead cranes, homogenizers, and related materials handling to move logs and charge furnaces.

You will pass forklift tests, handle scrap, and maintain clean work areas while following PPE guidelines and safety rules to ensure smooth, safe production processes.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Self-motivated and willing to learn.
• Ability to communicate (written & verbal) and work well with all employees.

Responsibilities

• Attend all pre-shift safety meetings and follow safety rules.
• Wear PPE as required for each task.
• Keep your work area clean (housekeeping).
• Pass forklift certification test.
• Learn to operate overhead crane.
• Learn to operate homogenizers.
• Use Combi-lift to move logs from cast pit to saw area.
• Weigh furnace charges and use scrap map for alloys.
• Load materials into furnaces without damaging refractory.

Hourly rate

$18.75/hr.
$500 Sign-on bonus
+$1/hour for night shift differential
Eligible for monthly profit sharing.(With profit sharing, earnings can increase by ~$1.50–$3.00/hour.)

Shift available and hours

What you will be doing

• Attend all pre-shift safety meetings. Follow all safety rules and practices at all times.
• Wear all PPE required by the task being performed.
• Housekeeping: Keep your area clean.
• Pass forklift certification test.
• Learn to operate overhead crane.
• Learn to operate homogenizers.
• Become proficient on Combi-lift to move logs from cast pit to saw area.
• When helping on the melting furnaces, accurately weigh furnace charges and become familiar with the “warehouse scrap map” in order to retrieve different scrap alloys.
• Become familiar with charging scrap metal into furnaces.
• Learn how to safely remove foreign material (steel wire, bands, cardboard, wood, etc.) from material to be loaded into furnace.
• Load material into furnaces without damaging furnace refractory.
