Job summary

Norsk Hydro in Yankton, SD, is seeking a production team member for the Casthouse B department. The role begins with day-to-day log handling, operating forklifts and banders, and assisting furnace operations to ensure efficient production.

Starting at $22 per hour, with a $500 sign-on bonus and additional $1/hour night shift differential. Eligible for monthly profit sharing; aim to contribute to a safe, productive workplace.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years or older.
  • Self-motivated and willing to learn.
  • Ability to work based on criteria under work environment.
  • Must have ability to communicate (both written & verbal) and work well with all employees.

Responsibilities

  • Help pit crew start and end drops.
  • Operate mobile equipment (forklift, skid loader, sweeper, overhead crane) to move logs.
  • Use mechanical or air bander to band logs into bundles and accurately mark (heat number, alloy, length, and weight).
  • Operate and move homogenizers. Fill out homogenizer charts correctly.
  • Help pit crew with unplugging and plugging of furnaces.
  • Learn to operate log saw and help furnace operators when needed.
  • Properly fill out paperwork for recording of logs and inspection reports.

Hourly rate
