Job summary

Weir ESCO is seeking a Furnace Operator in Newton, MS to operate the furnace, monitor heat, and ensure proper charge and safety compliance during shifts. The role includes refractory maintenance and data recording to support production tracking.

You will follow strict safety protocols, maintain equipment integrity, and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to advance a world-class safety culture.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Furnace Operation: Operate the furnace to melt steel into a molten bath, ensuring the correct charge is placed and following the electronic heat log steps on the computer subsystem.
  • Refractory Maintenance: Maintain and repair the refractory lining inside the furnace using specialized equipment to apply protective coatings.
  • Safety and Cleanliness: Keep the work area clean and free of hazards, adhere to PPE and safety protocols.
  • Data Collection and Reporting: Capture basic operational data and update pitch boards to support production tracking.
  • Zero harm focus: Commit to safety culture and continuous improvement initiatives.

Location: Newton, Ms.
Shift: 2nd, 1:00pm to 11:15pm – Monday to Thursday

What you’ll do
  • Furnace Operation: Operate the furnace to melt steel into a molten bath, ensuring the correct charge is placed and following the electronic heat log steps on the computer subsystem. You will remain with the furnace during operation, take temperatures, and monitor melting parameters daily. Success means operating independently after training, maintaining process accuracy, and ensuring safety compliance.
  • Refractory Maintenance : Maintain and repair the refractory lining inside the furnace using specialized equipment to apply protective coatings, ensuring the furnace’s integrity and longevity.
  • Safety and Cleanliness: Keep the work area clean and free of hazards, perform frequent cleaning, and adhere strictly to PPE and safety protocols. You will participate in lean initiatives such as 6S, Visual Management, and Kaizen to support continuous improvement.
  • Data Collection and Reporting: Capture basic operational data accurately and update pitch boards as required to support production tracking and communication.

What you’ll bring
Must-haves:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and work instructions precisely.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and consistent attendance.
Nice-to-haves :
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and process logging.
  • Previous experience in manufacturing, production, or industrial environments.
  • Experience operating industrial equipment or familiarity with furnace operations.
