Job summary

Toyota Research Institute in the San Francisco Bay Area — with remote work possible — seeks an experienced fund accounting manager to oversee accurate financial reporting, fund operations, and compliance for venture-capital-style funds. You will lead month-end closes, capital calls, distributions, and tax documentation while ensuring data integrity across systems.

The role requires GAAP expertise, VC fund structure knowledge, and strong communication with investors and leadership.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional accounting experience, ideally with 4+ years in VC/fund accounting.
• Advanced proficiency in Google Workspace and Excel, including building and auditing financial models.
• Experience with fund accounting platforms (Carta, Investran, eFront) is preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field; CPA desirable.

Responsibilities

• Execute end-to-end capital calls and distributions, including notices and data verification.
• Month-end close: reconcile bank accounts and prepare journal entries.
• Reconcile portfolio data against cap tables, valuation records, and GL; maintain Statement of Investments.
• Maintain fund accounting systems and data integrity across internal systems.
• Build and audit waterfall models for distributions, carried interest, and hurdles.
• Coordinate with external tax preparers and review tax returns for completeness.
• Prepare reporting files for Limited Partners and parent entities.
• Draft responses to investor inquiries regarding fund statements, contributions, distributions and tax documentation (K-1s).
