Job summary

Mad Science of Central Los Angeles is looking for highly energetic and dynamic instructors to lead after-school science programs for elementary students (TK–5th). You do not need to be a certified teacher, but experience working with groups of children is preferred.

This part-time, seasonal role requires availability at least three weekdays from 12–5pm, a personal insured vehicle for travel, and a commitment to safety guidelines.

Qualifications

• Experience teaching or leading groups of elementary-age children (4–12).
• Theatre experience is a plus.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Available a minimum of three consistent weekdays from 12–5pm.
• Have an insured, personal vehicle for program travel.
• Willing to attend paid Friday staff meetings.
• Minimum of 1 year of college suggested.

Responsibilities

• Facilitating day camps, in-person workshops, and after-school programs for TK–5th graders.
• Deliver high-energy, engaging programs meeting weekly for 1 hour over 8–12 weeks.
• Travel to multiple locations across Los Angeles County and Southern California.
• Attend paid training sessions and Friday meetings.
• Adhere to safety and cleanliness guidelines.

We are looking for HIGHLY ENERGETIC and DYNAMIC individuals excited to hit the ground running! We are looking for instructors to join our growing team to conduct exciting programming. You do not need to be a certified teacher, but experience working with groups of elementary-aged students is preferred.

At Mad Science, we are having a blast! Through a blend of education and entertainment, you will lead students through inquiry-based discovery methods involving instructor demonstrations, hands-on activities, and take-home projects that will illustrate how science affects the world around us.

Responsibilities:

• Facilitating day camps, in-person workshops, and after-school science enrichment programs for students TK - 5th grade.
• Deliver hands on, high-energy, part entertainment/part education programs that meet for one hour each week for approximately 8-12 weeks.
• Drive to various locations across Los Angeles County and various Southern California locations
• Attend paid training sessions virtually or at our office.
• Attend the mandatory Friday Staff Meeting every week (paid).
• Be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
• Be on time for all scheduled activities.
• Adhere to strict safety and cleanliness guidelines.

Qualifications:

• Experience teaching/ working with groups of elementary-age (4-12) children (such as an after-school teacher or camp counselor).
  • THEATRE EXPERIENCE IS A PLUS!
• Be at least 18 years old
• Available a minimum of three consistent weekdays from 12-5pm (15-hours)
  • While this is a part-time position, it is critical that you are able to commit to the length of any given program (school season, camp session, after-school program, etc.), and that you are able to give us steady weekly availability.
• Have an insured, personal vehicle as you will be transporting equipment and conducting programs at schools and organizations across Los Angeles County and various Southern California locations
• Be available for mandatory Friday meeting, 11am-12pm
• Minimum of 1 year of college suggested. Degrees and/or graduate degrees are a plus.

This is a part-time position and is somewhat seasonal, as we follow the school year.

Pay for all Areas of Business (AOB) is hourly - including set-up and clean-up time.

Starting pay is $22.00-$25.00 per hour DOE, plus mileage compensation!
