Job summary

Mad Science is seeking energetic STEM instructors to lead after-school and morning sessions for elementary children. You will deliver engaging, inquiry-based activities, supervise demonstrations, and guide take-home projects to show how science impacts daily life.

The role is part-time to semi-full-time and somewhat seasonal, with hourly pay starting at $22.50–$30 DOE. Opportunities for additional classes and hours exist for motivated educators.

Qualifications

• Some experience working with groups of children (4-12) in educational settings.
• Must be available at least three weekdays during programming hours.
• Reliable car and proof of valid insurance required.
• Background check (DOJ/FBI) and negative TB test required.
• Vaccination proof and/or COVID testing may be required.

Job Summary

At Mad Science, we are having a BLAST! We pay you to have fun! Build and fly rockets, demonstrate lasers, explore the states of matter using dry ice, and help children create slime and other polymers. You will inspire the next generation of scientists through our innovative activities that show kids what science is really all about.

As a Mad Scientist, you will lead students through an inquiry-based discovery method involving instructor demonstrations, hands-on activities, and amazing take-home projects that will illustrate how science affects the world around us. Mad Science is the world's leading provider of fun science programs for elementary-aged children.

This is a part-time to semi-full-time position and is somewhat seasonal. Pay for all Areas of Business (AOB) is hourly - including set-up and clean-up time. Starting pay is $22.50-$30 per hour DOE. If you teach 5 one-hour classes per week you will make approximately $225-$300. There ARE multiple opportunities for more classes/hours for those with the availability.

We are currently looking for energetic individuals to join our growing team to conduct exciting science, engineering, and technology programs during after-school and morning time slots. You do NOT need to be a certified teacher (although we love that!).

Responsibilities:

• Facilitating day camps, in-person workshops, and after-school science enrichment programs for children from preschool through elementary school
• Deliver high-energy, part entertainment, part education, and hands-on programs that meet for one hour each week for approximately 8-10 weeks.
• Drive to various locations across Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.
• Enjoy teaching young children the art of science!
• Attend paid training sessions at our office.
• Attend the mandatory Friday Staff Meeting every week (paid).
• Be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
• Be on time for all scheduled activities.
• Adhere to strict safety and cleanliness guidelines.

Qualifications:

• Some experience working with groups of elementary-age (4-12) children (such as an after-school teacher or camp counselor).
• Must be available at least three weekdays during programming hours (which vary). While this is a part-time position, it is critical that you are able to commit to the length of any given program (camp session, after-school program, etc.), and that you are able to give us steady weekly availability.
• Must have a reliable car as you will be driving to locations in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. New hires will be required to provide proof of valid insurance.
• All employees must: complete a DOJ/FBI background check that must come back clear, and submit a current negative TB Test
• Please note that most customers that we work with (such as school districts) require proof of vaccination and/or COVID testing.
• Minimum of 1 year of college completed. Degrees and/or graduate degrees are a plus.
• Maintain a fun, flexible, & outgoing personality!
