Job summary

Mad Science of Central Los Angeles is seeking part-time instructors to lead after-school and camp programs for elementary students. You will deliver engaging, hands-on science activities and travel to schools across Los Angeles County, guiding curious learners through demonstrations and projects.

No teaching credential is required, but you must be 18+, have reliable transportation, and commit to at least three weekdays from 12–5pm. Training is provided and Friday staff meetings are paid.

Qualifications

• Experience teaching/ working with groups of elementary-age children (4-12).
• Theatre experience is a plus.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Available a minimum of three consistent weekdays from 12-5pm (15 hours).
• Must have an insured, personal vehicle for transporting equipment to schools and programs.
• Must be able to attend a Friday meeting (11am-12pm).
• Minimum of 1 year of college suggested; degrees/graduate degrees are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Facilitating day camps, in-person workshops, and after-school science enrichment programs for students TK - 5th grade.
• Deliver hands-on, high-energy programs that meet for one hour weekly over 8–12 weeks.
• Travel to various locations across Los Angeles County and Southern California.
• Attend paid training sessions virtually or at the office.
• Attend the mandatory Friday Staff Meeting (paid).
• Be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
• Be on time for all scheduled activities.
• Adhere to safety and cleanliness guidelines.

We are looking for HIGHLY ENERGETIC and DYNAMIC individuals excited to hit the ground running! We are looking for instructors to join our growing team to conduct exciting programming. You do not need to be a certified teacher, but experience working with groups of elementary-aged students is preferred.

At Mad Science, we are having a blast! Through a blend of education and entertainment, you will lead students through inquiry-based discovery methods involving instructor demonstrations, hands-on activities, and take-home projects that will illustrate how science affects the world around us.

Responsibilities:

• Drive to various locations across Los Angeles County and various Southern California locations

• Be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
• Be on time for all scheduled activities.
• Adhere to strict safety and cleanliness guidelines.

  • While this is a part-time position, it is critical that you are able to commit to the length of any given program (school season, camp session, after-school program, etc.), and that you are able to give us steady weekly availability.
• Have an insured, personal vehicle as you will be transporting equipment and conducting programs at schools and organizations across Los Angeles County and various Southern California locations
• Be available for mandatory Friday meeting, 11am-12pm
• Minimum of 1 year of college suggested. Degrees and/or graduate degrees are a plus.

This is a part-time position and is somewhat seasonal, as we follow the school year.

Pay for all Areas of Business (AOB) is hourly - including set-up and clean-up time.

Starting pay is $22.00-$25.00 per hour DOE, plus mileage compensation!
