Job summary

Mad Science of Central Los Angeles is seeking a part-time, seasonal trainer to lead inquiry-based science programs for children across Los Angeles and surrounding counties. You will conduct hands-on demonstrations, facilitate activities, and guide take-home projects that illustrate how science shapes the world.

Starting pay ranges from $22.00 to $25.00 per hour DOE, with mileage compensation. Must have a vehicle, be available afternoons, and commit to multiple program lengths throughout the

Qualifications

• Experience teaching/working with groups of elementary-age children (4–12).
• Ability to commit to consistent weekday afternoon schedule (12–5pm).
• Own insured vehicle for transporting equipment to sites across LA/Ventura Counties.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate day camps, in-person workshops, and after-school programs for children 4–12.
• Deliver engaging hands-on programs that meet weekly for 1 hour over 8–12 weeks.
• Travel to various locations across Los Angeles County and Southern California.
• Attend paid training sessions virtually or at the office.
• Attend the weekly Friday staff meeting (paid).
• Lift and carry up to 25 lbs.

At Mad Science, we are having a blast! You will lead students through inquiry-based discovery methods involving instructor demonstrations, hands‑on activities, and amazing take‑home projects that will illustrate how science affects the world around us, inspiring the next generation of scientists.

This is a part‑time, seasonal position. Pay is hourly for all Areas of Business (AOB), including set‑up and clean‑up time. Starting pay is $22.00‑$25.00 per hour DOE, plus mileage compensation!

Responsibilities

• Facilitating day camps, in‑person workshops, and after‑school science enrichment programs for children from preschool through elementary school
• Deliver hands‑on, high‑energy, part entertainment/part education programs that meet for one hour each week for approximately 8‑12 weeks
• Drive to various locations across Los Angeles County and Southern California
• Attend paid training sessions virtually or at our office
• Attend the mandatory Friday Staff Meeting every week (paid)
• Be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
• Be on time for all scheduled activities
• Adhere to strict safety and cleanliness guidelines

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Must be available a minimum of three consistent weekday afternoons, 12‑5pm. While this is a part‑time position, it is critical that you are able to commit to the length of any given program (school season, camp session, after‑school program, etc.), and that you are able to give us steady weekly availability.
• Must have an insured, personal vehicle as you will be transporting equipment and conducting programs at schools and organizations across Los Angeles and Ventura Counties
• Must be available for mandatory Friday meeting, 11am‑12pm
• Experience teaching/working with groups of elementary‑age (4‑12) children, such as an after‑school teacher or camp counselor
• Minimum of 1 year of college suggested; degrees and/or graduate degrees are a plus
• Theatre experience is a plus
• Maintain a fun, flexible, & outgoing personality
