The instructor’s main responsibility is to provide students with a sound understanding of the science, technology, and applications essential for successful employment in the welding and metal industry. Responsibilities include:
- Reviewing and selecting appropriate textbooks and instructional materials for classes.
- Developing course syllabi, lectures, classroom activities, laboratory and hands-on exercises.
- Monitoring and recording student progress.
- Administering tests and other evaluation methods; grading and providing feedback on assignments.
- Keeping records of student attendance.
- Serving as advisor to assigned students.
- Carrying out classes and/or lab sessions under the supervision of the Welding Department Program Chair.
- Creating an effective learning environment.
- Meeting classes as assigned.
- Presenting instruction based on student learning outcomes.
- Using teaching methods designed for a variety of learning styles.
- Using course text, outlines, syllabi, and other curriculum materials according to college and departmental guidelines.
- Assisting with maintaining a classroom environment emphasizing safety, good housekeeping, and equipment security.
- Maintaining a minimum of five office hours per week to advise/assist students and no less than thirty-two hours per week on campus.
- Assisting in ordering and inventory of departmental supplies, materials, and equipment.
- Assisting the Learning Resource Center in selecting and maintaining a collection of books, periodicals, and audiovisual media.
- Completing and submitting on time all required instructional and administrative reports and records.
- Assisting in enforcement of policies and regulations applicable to students.
- Serving on various college committees.
- Participating in college events and activities.
- Recruiting, advising, and retaining students.
- Participating in communications with the college and department and meeting deadlines as required.
- Submitting required reports.
- Participating in the college's assessment process as required.
- Fulfilling all contract provisions.
- Maintaining a high level of professionalism as a representative of the college.
- Maintaining accurate attendance and scholastic records of students.
- Maintaining knowledge of programs, trends, and new developments in the area of expertise.
- Engaging in continuous improvement through assessment of student learning outcomes.
- Contributing to the College’s Quality Enhancement Plan.
Minimum Qualifications:- Work experience in a Welding Related Industry.
- Knowledge of Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG)/Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (Stick), Pipe Welding, Oxyfuel/Plasma Cutting Processes, Blueprint Reading with AWS Welding Symbols.
Preferred Qualifications:- AAS Degree or Diploma in Welding Technology.
- 3-5 Years work experience in a Welding Related Industry.
- Valid Welder Qualifications.
- Prior teaching experience.
