Job summary

Bard College seeks a Full-Time Security Guard to join the Safety and Security department. The guard is responsible for monitoring campus activities, responding to alarms, and protecting students, employees, and guests.

Requires a High School Diploma and at least 1 year of security experience, with NYS 8-hour and 16-hour trainings. Benefits are provided with compensation of $26.68/hour plus a $1.25/hour night shift differential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of security experience; college campus security experience preferred.
• Must maintain NYS 8-hour Pre-Assignment Training Certification and NYS 16-hour On-the-Job Training.

Responsibilities

• Alarm response and access control; escort services for students and employees; patrols of campus and buildings.
• Complete reports accurately and timely; respond to crises and de-escalate when needed.
• Provide crisis intervention, assist dispatchers, and support safety operations.

The Security Guard is responsible for the security and monitoring of campus activities and buildings as directed by the Security Director. They’re responsible for ensuring the safety of campus students, employees and guests to the College.

Primary Responsibilities

• Responsible for, but not limited to, alarm response, escortservice for students and employees, routine vehicle and footpatrol, access control, lock outs, prevention of damage and theftto property, prevention of criminal activity and trafficcontrol
• Responsible for the accurate completion of reports, asrequired
• Maintains general knowledge of plumbing and heating, to relateissues to appropriate buildings and grounds staff
• Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation tactics inrequired situations
• Respond rapidly and effectively and without hesitation tocrisis situations, as required
• Assist with dispatcher duties, as required
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High School Diploma Required
• Minimum 1 year of security experience; college campus securityexperience preferred.
• Must be able to successfully complete the New York State 8-hourPre-Assignment Training Certification
• Must be able to successfully complete the New York State16-hour On-the-Job Training
• Must maintain a New York State Safe Driver Certification and avalid New York State Driver’s License
• Applicants must currently be registered with New York StateDivision of Criminal Justice Services, Bureau for Municipal Police,Security Guard Division
• Position requires good character references. Good health,especially in hearing and eyesight, and good personal habits, suchas neatness and dependability
• Position requires mental alertness, emotionally stable andphysically fit to deal with emergencies
• Attention to accuracy, ability to work under pressure, multitask and strong follow up skills required
• Acceptance to diverse, open-minded behaviors and/oractions
• Ability to deal and use discretion with confidentialmatters
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment; on andoff campus positive promotion of the college required
• Must have the ability to think quickly and act decisively inemergency situations
• Strong literate, verbal and written skills required

Physical Qualifications

• Ability to use equipment, such as hand radio, telephone andmotor vehicles
• 10% availability to travel outside of 75-mile radius

Compensation

$26.68/hour with a $1.25/hour shift differential for the 11pm to 7am shift.

Probationary pay adjustment

Less $1.00/hour for the firstone year of employment.
