Job summary

BioLife Plasma Services, a Takeda subsidiary, seeks a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) in Roanoke, VA. You will ensure donor eligibility, perform medical assessments, and uphold safety and regulatory standards across plasma center operations.

Requirements include state LPN/LVN licensure, CPR/AED, IV therapy certification, FDA-approved BioLife MS training, and at least two years of clinical experience. This role reports to the Center Physician and Center Manager.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, with nursing program eligibility and state licensure.
• Current LPN/LVN license in the assignment state.
• CPR and AED certification current.
• IV therapy certification at state level.
• Completion of BioLife Medical Support Specialist FDA-approved training.
• At least two years of clinical or hospital experience.

Responsibilities

• Determine donor eligibility, consent, and accept/reject based on policies.
• Perform physical exams, blood testing, and review SPE results.
• Evaluate donor reactions and follow SOPs for emergencies and transports.
• Refer any concerns to Center Physician or Medical Affairs for guidance.
• Support vaccination programs for employees (HBV, Seasonal Flu).
• Manage incidents and coordinate occupational health/ER evaluation per EHS guidance.
• Act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized, assist investigations.
• Provide center-level environmental, health, and safety support.
• Follow BioLife Medical Affairs and regulatory requirements.

Education

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in state

CPR and AED certification

State-level basic IV therapy certification

FDA-approved BioLife Medical Support Specialist training

Minimum 2 years clinical or hospital experience

BioLife Plasma Services is a subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd. The Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) supports plasma center operations, ensuring donor eligibility, safety, and compliance with regulations. The specialist reports to the Plasma Center Manager and works under the guidance of the Center Physician for medical issues.

Responsibilities

• Determine donor eligibility and manage informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self‑exclusion, medical history interview and acceptance requirements.
• Conduct physical examinations, blood testing, and review Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE) results.
• Evaluate donor reactions and follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including development of Center Physician standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities.
• Refer to Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings or medical/technical guidance.
• Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees.
• Manage employee incidents and determine the need for occupational health/ER evaluation, following EHS guidance.
• Act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS, supporting investigations of pandemic threats.
• Provide center‑level support of environmental, health, and safety (EHS).
• Follow guidance from BioLife Medical Affairs and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or graduate equivalent of a recognized nursing program with state requirements.
• Currently licensed or certified in the state of assignment: LPN or LVN.
• Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
• State‑level basic IV therapy certification.
• Completed FDA‑approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
• Minimum two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

Compensation and Benefits

U.S. hourly wage: $24.32 – $33.44, subject to qualifications, experience, and local wage requirements. U.S. employees may be eligible for short‑term incentives, medical/dental/vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with company match, disability coverage, life insurance, tuition reimbursement, paid volunteer time off, holidays, well‑being benefits, up to 80 sick hours per year, and up to 120 vacation hours for new hires.
