Role Overview

You will be a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) supporting plasma center operations and reporting to the Plasma Center Manager. Your duties include determining donor eligibility, managing donor adverse events, reviewing laboratory test results, and notifying donors of unsuitable test results. You will work under the guidance of the Center Manager (or Assistant Manager) and the Center Physician for medical issues, and you will provide center level support for environmental, health, and safety (EHS).

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine donor eligibility, including management of informed consent, AIDS education and confidential self‑exclusion, medical history interview and acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, and review of Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
  • Evaluate donor reactions during the facility’s operations as outlined in SOPs and follow applicable SOPs for medical emergencies.
  • Develop Center Physician’s standing orders and coordinate donor transport to emergency care facilities.
  • Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs when encountering unacceptable findings or medical/technical issues related to donor safety and eligibility.
  • Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees.
  • Manage employee incidents and determine if further evaluation by occupational health/ER is required; refer to EHS guidance regarding employee incidents.
  • Act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations associated with pandemic threats within the local community as directed by EHS or Medical Affairs.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
  • Current license or certification in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: LPN or LVN.
  • Current CPR and AED certification.
  • Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy.
  • Satisfactorily complete the FDA‑approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
  • Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.
  • Familiarity with regulations of the plasma collection industry or a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of EHS guidance.
