Job Objective:

Assists Store Manager with the store staff; production and sales; store maintenance; customer development; banking and record keeping procedures. Supports Manager in all day-to-day operations of assigned thrift store.

  • Supports staff training and supervision as assigned.
  • Participates in recruiting and interviewing staff for store as assigned.
  • Participates in scheduling of staff, monitors accuracy and submits payroll for processing as assigned.
  • Ensures that all TSA policies and practices concerning employee relations are complied with.
  • Promptly forwards all employment related paperwork to the HR Department at the ARC.
  • Provides training, supervision, and support to beneficiaries assigned to the store as part of their work therapy.

Supports implementation of strategies to meet production and sales goals.

  • Supervises the product acquisition (donation) processes, production (sorting, hanging, pricing, and presentation) processes, and sales processes.
  • Supervises and is proficient in all parts of the acquisition, production, and sales processes. Supervises the product rotation process and is diligent in turning product over.
  • Communicates with central warehouse to place orders for next day's processing needs.

Assists manager with store maintenance and appearance, ensuring safety, security, cleanliness, and utility.

  • Ensures compliance with OSHA and Salvation Army safety and security policies.
  • Checks display and floor layout plans for adherence and updates as needed.
  • Identifies and communicates ways to improve store appearance and appeal to customers.
  • Implements Product Control Procedures to prevent shrinkage through theft or spoilage.
  • Reports maintenance or repair needs promptly.
  • Implements customer development and retention plans to create an enjoyable shopping experience.
  • Interacts positively with customers, setting an example for staff.
  • Assists in recordkeeping and reporting procedures for the store.
  • Applies TSA-approved cash handling procedures for opening and closing registers.
  • Assists in bank runs and deposit procedures.
  • Reports store production and sales as assigned and uses inventory tracking as instructed.

Communicates with the Store Manager regarding all store operations, incidents, concerns, and ideas, and with ARC Department Heads as trained.

  • Works with the store manager to keep income and expenses within budget.
  • Manages cash handling procedures per TSA Policy.
  • Must be available for a flexible schedule, including early shifts, late shifts, and most weekends, to train staff.

Proactively works to improve The Salvation Army's image among staff and in the community.

  • Creates a positive understanding of policies and procedures.
  • Addresses complaints and criticism through education and program understanding.
  • Protects supervised resources.
  • Implements Product Control Procedures to prevent shrinkage and controls property, utility, and supply waste.

Performs all other duties as assigned.
