Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania - Norristown State Hospital is seeking a Semi-Skilled Laborer to perform hands-on maintenance across multiple work areas. The role supports patient, visitor, and staff well-being through essential tasks, including shop work, grounds care, and weather response.

The position is full-time (37.5 hours/week) with day hours and no telework option, requiring one year of laboring experience or an equivalent combination of training.

Qualifications

• One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

• Shop Assistance: Complete assigned work in labor, heat, plumbing, paint, electric, boiler plant, and grounds areas.
• Roadwork Duties: Repair blacktop, cement roads, sidewalks, parking lots, curbing, gutters, and catch basins.
• Material Handling: Load, haul, and unload trash, debris, and other materials across facility spaces.
• Building Maintenance: Help repair wooden structures, replace glass, and support laundry and electrical equipment upkeep.
• Grounds Care: Cut grass, rake leaves, pick up litter, and operate lawn care equipment under supervision.
• Weather Response: Shovel snow from walks, parking lots, fire exits, and other required areas.
