General Purpose

The Full-Time Lead Business Instructor serves as a core faculty member within Midwestern Career College (MCC) Business Programs. This full-time, exempt faculty position is primarily responsible for high-quality undergraduate instruction across business, marketing, accounting, and finance courses, based on academic qualifications and program needs.

The instructor carries a full teaching load and also supports curriculum improvement, assessment, student success, faculty collaboration, and selected program activities under the direction of the Program Director. Instruction may be delivered in person, live virtually, asynchronously online, or in hybrid formats.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Deliver a full-time teaching load of five (5) courses per term, typically scheduled across two sequential 8-week sessions, as assigned by the Program Director.
  • Teach undergraduate courses in general business and marketing and, when academically or professionally qualified, accounting and finance.
  • Deliver engaging instruction in in-person, live virtual, asynchronous online, and hybrid formats using appropriate methods for adult and diverse learners.
  • Implement approved course curricula, syllabi, textbooks, learning outcomes, grading standards, and academic policies.
  • Prepare and evaluate assignments, examinations, projects, and other assessments; provide timely, substantive feedback to students.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, gradebook, and student records in accordance with college policies and required timelines.
  • Maintain active communication and engagement with students, including outreach to students who are not participating or who may be academically at risk.
  • Provide office hours, academic guidance, tutoring or remediation support, and referrals to appropriate College resources when needed.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director on curriculum review, program review, course learning outcomes, curriculum maps, assessment activities, textbook review, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support student retention and success initiatives, including Early Alert, Academic Recovery, tutoring referrals, and support for late enrolled students as assigned.
  • Assist with new student orientation, information sessions, externship-related activities, and other Business Program events as requested.
  • Provide peer support or subject-matter guidance to part-time faculty when requested by the Program Director; this position does not carry supervisory or final faculty-evaluation authority.
  • Participate in required faculty meetings, professional development, classroom observations, institutional assessment, and accreditation-related activities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of developments in business and assigned teaching disciplines, including appropriate uses of technology, data analytics, and generative AI in business education.
  • Comply with MCC policies regarding academic integrity, FERPA, confidentiality, classroom management, professional conduct, and use of college systems.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with a learning management system; D2L Brightspace experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of, or willingness to learn, business and analytics applications such as QuickBooks, Power BI, Tableau, or comparable tools, as applicable to assigned courses.
  • Ability to use data analytics and generative AI tools responsibly in instruction and assessment while maintaining academic integrity standards.
Education and/or Experience
Required
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Management, or a closely related business discipline, with graduate-level academic preparation appropriate for assigned undergraduate courses. Candidates assigned to accounting or finance courses must demonstrate sufficient academic preparation and/or professional competency in those areas. Evidence may include a graduate degree in Accounting or Finance; substantial graduate coursework in accounting and/or finance; a relevant professional credential such as CPA, CMA, CFA, or CFP; or substantive professional experience in accounting, finance, banking, or financial services, subject to academic review.
Preferred
  • Prior undergraduate teaching experience; experience teaching in multiple modalities; professional experience in business, accounting, finance, banking, marketing, management, or entrepreneurship; and experience working with diverse or international student populations.
Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the instructor is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The instructor must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
