Job summary

Northwestern Medicine in Lake Forest is seeking a full-time Medical Laboratory Scientist for a 40-hour work week. The shift runs 2:30pm to 11pm with every third weekend rotation, supporting patient diagnosis and treatment through accurate test results.

The MLS performs tasks across pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases, verifies orders, maintains quality control, analyzes results, and communicates findings per regulatory standards and hospital policy.

Qualifications

• Performs pre-analytic workflow for the specific laboratory section.
• Verifies orders and container/collection accuracy per protocol.
• Maintains quality control procedures and records for test systems.
• Reviews and interprets test results with appropriate correlation to patient data.

Responsibilities

• Performs pre-analytic workflow and ensures proper specimen handling.
• Verifies orders and non-patient information per established protocol.
• Performs analytical testing following SOPs and SOPs for each section.
• Maintains instrument QC and preventive maintenance per defined schedule.
• Ensures specimen labeling and storage are correct and compliant.
• Communicates results to physicians or designee accurately and timely for patient care.
