Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist for a full-time 2nd shift position in the Immunology Lab at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. The role requires 2pm-10:30pm shifts with rotating weekends and adherence to ethical and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities span pre-analytic to post-analytic testing, including specimen processing, QC, and reporting. Must possess MLS/MT certification eligibility and ASCP credentials within specified timelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Biology, or Allied Health qualifying the applicant to take the ASCP or equivalent certification examination.
• License/Certification and Regulatory Agency requirements.
• General MLS or MT (ASCP) Certification or eligible.
• Categorical BB, C, H or M (ASCP) Certification or eligible.
• If hired after 1/19/2025 must be ASCP certified (or equivalent certification) within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Performs all aspects of pre-analytic workflow for the laboratory section, ensuring correct orders, appropriate specimens, and proper processing.
• Verifies orders and non-patient information per protocol.
• Collects, receives, and processes specimens with proper labeling and documentation.
• Performs analytical testing following SOPs; maintains instrument accuracy and QC.
• Performs post-analytic duties including reporting results, ensuring quality and proper documentation.
• Troubleshoots test system issues and escalates when needed; ensures turnaround times.
• Performs specimen storage, retrieval, and proper handling of materials.
• Participates in training, SOP updates, and new test development.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science

ASCP Certification eligible

General MLS or MT (ASCP) Certification or eligible

Categorical BB, C, H or M (ASCP) Certification or eligible

ASCP certification required within 1 year of employment (if hired after 1/19/2025)
