Job summary

American Medical Response – St. Louis Emergency Communications is hiring a full-time Emergency Medical Dispatcher. The role includes paid training to become an Emergency Medical Dispatcher and requires handling EMS requests, triage, and pre-arrival instructions.

You must be able to work weekends/holidays and communicate clearly via telephone and radio. The center is a large private EMD operation serving multiple states in the Midwest, with a strong focus on accuracy, data entry, and coordination

Qualifications

• Be at least 18 years old.
• Have proof of a HS diploma or GED.
• Successfully complete computer-aided pre-interview test.
• Ability to clearly communicate via telephone and radio.
• Ability to listen, talk, and type simultaneously.

Responsibilities

• Understand and apply Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) concepts and standards.
• Allocate EMS resources per protocols and processes.
• Maintain proficiency in the CAD system and data entry for service requests.
• Follow company and departmental policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Complete continuing education as outlined by the department.
• Work effectively in potentially stressful environments.
• Communicate clearly with patients, medical personnel, co-workers, and clients.
• Use maps to identify locations for transport requests and crew safety.
• Monitor multiple radio channels and maintain contact with local agencies.
• Prioritize tasks with high professionalism and customer service.
• Understand basic computer applications.
• Work weekends and holidays on scheduled rotation.
• Other duties as assigned by the department.
