Job summary

The Department of Asian and Asian American Studies at Stony Brook University invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in Chinese language to commence Fall 2027. This in-person appointment is at West Campus and requires eligibility to work in the United States. Required qualifications include a Master's degree or higher in related fields, 2+ years teaching

Qualifications

• Master's degree or higher in Chinese language pedagogy or related field, completed prior to start date.
• At least two years of college/university level Chinese teaching experience.
• Experience teaching Chinese at multiple levels of the curriculum.
• Experience with technology-enhanced instruction and a learning management system.
• Superior or near-native Mandarin proficiency (ACTFL Superior or equivalent).
• Professional English proficiency to teach, advise, and conduct departmental business.
• Evidence of teaching effectiveness.

Responsibilities

• Teach across the full sequence of Chinese language courses (3 courses/semester).
• Prepare syllabi, materials, and assessments; maintain common standards across sections.
• Advise students; participate in placement, proficiency examinations, and evaluations.
• Contribute to curriculum development and departmental service.
