Job summary

Stony Brook University’s Department of Writing and Rhetoric (DWR) is hiring a full-time lecturer specializing in English Language Learning to start in August 2027. The position offers a two-year, renewable appointment for 3 in-person courses per fall/spring semester, teaching undergraduate ELLs in the Program in Academic English, graduate TA training, and first-year writing in the DWR.

The ideal candidate holds an MA in TESOL or Applied Linguistics, has a minimum of three years’ ELL teaching

Qualifications

• MA in TESOL or Applied Linguistics at time of application
• Minimum three years' experience teaching English language learners (ELLs) in a postsecondary setting
• Proficiency in prescriptive English grammar and phonetics
• Native or native-like fluency in English
• Preferred: group-based rubric assessment of student learning outcomes
• Evidence of academic service
• Commitment to inclusive excellence
• No visa sponsorship for this position

Responsibilities

• Teach three in-person courses per fall/spring semester in the Program in Academic English
• Mentor students and contribute to departmental service
• Support graduate-level international TA training and first-year writing in the Writing and Rhetoric program
