Job summary

Holy Family Retreat Center in Beaumont, TX is seeking an Assistant Caretaker to work under the Caretaker and Property Director. The role focuses on general grounds and facilities maintenance, landscaping, cleaning, and repairs to support retreat activities.

This 40-hour-per-week position requires a Texas driver's license and completion of Diocesan Safe Environment Training. A high school diploma or GED and at least three months of grounds‑maintenance experience are preferred.

All Jobs > Full-Time Assistant Caretaker

Under the direction of the Caretaker and Property Director and in accordance with established policies and procedures, the assistant caretaker aligns with the goals and vision of the Holy Family Retreat Center and various retreats held onsite. The duty of the assistant is to perform general maintenance of grounds and facilities at the Center. This employee is responsible for providing landscaping of the grounds as well as general cleaning, repairing, and maintaining the facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Participate in grounds maintenance and upkeep
  • grass mowing
  • tree trimming and pruning
  • shrub and tree planting
  • fertilizing and watering
  • assist in the felling and cutting up of large trees
  • digging up irrigation lines
  • maintains tools
  • minor repairs on equipment
  • Performs all types of building maintenance when needed
  • cleaning and painting
  • window cleaning
  • plumbing
  • spraying for insects
  • Perform room setup for various retreat activities as requested
  • Assists Caretaker with duties that arise on a daily basis.
  • Contributes to goals, vision, and direction for the maintenance department
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or GED required to successfully accomplish the essential duties of this job. At least three months' experience in ground maintenance.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to recognize and deal with problems involving concrete variables while doing maintenance in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must have a current, valid Texas Driver’s License and must attend the Diocesan Safe Environment Training and earn a certificate.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, and mechanical work, landscaping, and equipment maintenance

The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.

This is a 40-hour per week position. Hours for this position are generally from 7:30am until 4:30pm Monday through Friday, however some work on weekends may be required based upon retreat and center needs. Overtime should be minimal but may be expected upon occasion.
