Job summary

Midland County Educational Service Agency in Midland, MI is seeking an American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to provide 1:1 language support for deaf or hard-of-hearing students across classrooms and events.

You will work closely with teachers and the IEP team to ensure full academic and social access, interpreting classroom activities and supporting vocabulary, with emphasis on confidentiality and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Educational interpreter with EIPA score 4.0 or higher (candidates below 4.0 may be considered as substitutes while working toward the requirement).
• Meets qualifications set forth in Michigan Administrative Code R.393.5026 and completes continuing education units to maintain licensure.
• Fluent in ASL or the specific sign language modality designated by the student’s educational team.
• Strong command of written and oral English (syntax, semantics, and spelling).

Responsibilities

• Interpret all classroom activities, instructions, and discussions according to the student’s IEP.
• Accompany the deaf or hard-of-hearing student throughout the day to classes and school events.
• Tutor and reinforce classroom content or vocabulary individually as needed.
• Collaborate with teachers and special education staff as part of the professional educational team.
• Monitor student comprehension and manage lighting, positioning, and attendance considerations.
