Job summary

Nelson Miller Group is seeking a Payroll Specialist to lead full-cycle payroll for multiple US sites, ensuring accuracy and compliance across states. The role handles timecard validation, off-cycle payments, and comprehensive payroll tax reporting while maintaining data integrity.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of payroll experience in manufacturing, strong knowledge of wage laws, and proficiency with payroll software and HRIS systems. Occasional travel for training is possible.

  • Experience with time & attendance processing, payroll/tax reporting and reconciliation.
  • Excel proficiency.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • General accounting fundamentals.

Responsibilities

  • Full-cycle payroll processing for multi-state, multi-site operations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Validate timecards, attendance data, and system integrations prior to payroll submission.
  • Process manual checks, adjustments, and off-cycle payments.
  • Reconcile payroll each cycle and validate reports prior to final transmission.
  • Maintain payroll records, audit trails, and employee data integrity.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws, including overtime and wage statement requirements.
  • Process garnishments, levies, child support orders, and other involuntary deductions.
  • Manage quarterly and annual payroll tax filings, including W-2s and year-end reconciliations.
  • Understand and apply proper taxation of employer-paid benefits.
  • Prepare payroll-related reports and ad hoc analyses for management.
  • Work within HRIS/payroll systems and ERP environments.
  • Manage vendor files and transactions related to benefit programs (401(k), FSA, HSA).
  • Support EDI feeds and troubleshoot file transmission issues.
  • Collaborate with HR and Finance to align employee data, benefits, and payroll outputs.
  • Assist the Finance team with general accounting or finance-related tasks.
