Position Title: Mechanic I

Supervises: No One

Skills and Abilities Required:

1. Working knowledge of the operating principles of internal combustion engines.
2. Ability to acquire skills in the repair and maintenance of heavy truck/bus equipment.
3. Knowledge of the operation of machinery in a maintenance shop.
4. Understanding of electrical systems in buses.
5. Ability to diagnose and repair equipment issues.
6. Physical strength to perform manual labor, meeting CDL/School Bus licensing requirements.

Education, Training, and Tools:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred; CDL “B” with endorsements required within 90 days.
• Use of hand tools and related equipment.

Term of Employment: 12 months

Probationary Period: 90 days, with CDL endorsement requirement within 90 days.

Responsibilities include:

• Repairing engines, transmissions, and related components.
• Overhauling fuel systems and ignition mechanisms.
• Maintaining and repairing bus systems, including brakes, steering, and electrical wiring.
• Performing general maintenance tasks like oil changes and fluid checks.
• Obtaining ASE school bus certification and North Carolina Vehicle Inspection License within specified timeframes.
• Performing other duties as assigned.
