Job summary

The Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) seeks a Counselor/Guest Support Specialist to welcome guests, ensure a safe shelter environment, and link individuals to health and housing services. You will use trauma-informed approaches and coordinate with internal teams to meet guests’ needs.

Qualifications include an Associate of Science or a high school diploma with 1 year of related experience, strong communication, and a commitment to health equity. On-site work in Boston is expected.

Qualifications

Associate of Science Degree or High School Diploma/GED with 1 year of related experience.
Punctuality, professionalism and respect for guests and staff are required.
Ability to promote health equity and work with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

Welcome guests, check them into the system, and review shelter rules.
Provide a safe, supportive environment and ensure shelter rules are followed.
Maintain confidential records and data entry in HMIS/ETO systems.
Respond to emergencies/crises and de-escalate conflicts as needed.
Coordinate with shelter teams and health services to link guests to care.
Assist with daily living tasks and distribute guest resources.
