Job summary

MyMichigan Health is seeking a Basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to provide life support and patient care from arrival through handoff to physicians or paramedics. Role covers assessment, scene response, and interfacility transfers for both adult and pediatric patients.

Qualifications include BLS/EMT-B, strong driving skills, and state licensure in Michigan. Physical demands are heavy with long shifts, and annual TB/OSHA training is required.

Qualifications

  • Excellent driving skills for emergency vehicles.
  • Driving record must be meet or exceed the facilities current insurance standards.
  • Ability to work independently to produce desired results.
  • Geographical skills needed to access emergency locations.
  • Knowledge, training and licensure to meet State of Michigan requirements, MMC fleet insurance requirements and any other requirements.
  • Mandatory tuberculosis (TB) testing must be done annually. Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient assessment and physical exam on all patients so as to provide Emergency Room physician with a clear, concise picture of the patient's condition.
  • Assists in the management of co-responders to the scene of accidents, fire or medical emergencies.
  • Arranges and performs timely and efficient transportation to the appropriate facility for continued patient care. Monitors patient condition.
  • Initiates emergency management to rectify or stabilize any anomaly found in the patient's physiological or psychological condition.
  • Maintains EMS stations as clean and attractive living quarters.
  • Compiles a written report of each call for billing to third-party payors.
  • Reports via radio the patient's condition to the receiving institution while in route and follows with a detailed report on arrival.
