Job summary

Via is launching AI Labs, an incubator-style team within the company, to build end-to-end AI products for cities and partners. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will own problems from framing to deployment, working directly with city stakeholders to implement scalable AI workflows.

You will contribute across data pipelines, real-time decision-making, and LLM-powered experiences, collaborating with product, data science, and operations.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on full stack development, owning features end-to-end.
• 3+ years experience with AI tools and AI-powered products.
• Deep expertise across the AI stack, including LLMs, predictive modelling, and data infrastructure.
• Strong backend engineering, scalable APIs, distributed systems.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and early-stage environments, ownership mindset.
• Strong cross-functional communication and curiosity about AI.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship production-grade AI products end-to-end.
• Collaborate with customers in a forward-deployed manner to understand problems and iterate on AI solutions.
• Lead technical scoping workshops with city leaders to solve local problems.
• Contribute to data consolidation, predictive modelling, real-time decision-making, and LLM-powered experiences.
• Design APIs, data flows, and scalable backend systems for AI features.
• Help shape the technical culture of AI Labs and its processes.
• Stay at the frontier of AI development and bring new ideas into the team.
