Job summary

Via is forming AI Labs to build AI-powered products for cities, starting from a blank canvas. As Staff Engineer, you will own end-to-end AI product development, from problem framing to live deployment, and work directly with city partners to deliver scalable, agentic solutions.

You will lead technical scoping, collaborate with product, data science, and operations, and help shape the team culture while staying at the cutting edge of AI developments.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of hands-on experience building full stack applications.
• 3+ years of working with AI tools or building AI-powered products.
• Expertise across the AI stack including LLMs, predictive modelling, and supporting data infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship production-grade AI products end-to-end, from problem framing and data pipeline design to deployment in live environments.
• Collaborate with partners to understand problems and iterate on scalable agentic solutions.
• Lead technical scoping workshops and interface with city leaders to solve local problems with agentic workflows.
• Contribute to a roadmap involving data consolidation, real-time decision-making, and LLM-powered experiences.
• Work with product, data science, and operations to prioritize high-impact AI opportunities.
• Write clean, scalable backend code, design APIs, and ensure reliable systems at scale.
• Help shape AI Labs' technical culture and processes from the ground up.
• Stay close to AI frontier and bring new ideas, tools, and approaches.
