Job summary

Via is launching AI Labs and seeks a Forward Deployed Engineer in New York to build AI-driven products end-to-end. You will own problem framing, data pipelines, deployment, and iteration in live environments, while collaborating with city partners to design scalable agentic solutions.

You should have 5+ years of full-stack experience and 3+ years with AI tools, plus strong API and distributed-systems skills. Willingness to travel and work on-site is required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on experience building full-stack applications and owning features end-to-end.
• 3+ years working with AI tools or building AI-powered products.
• Deep expertise across the AI stack including LLMs, predictive modelling, and data infrastructure.
• Strong backend engineer with focus on scalable APIs and distributed systems.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and early-stage environments with ownership.
• Excellent cross-functional communication and curiosity to push AI boundaries.
• Thrives working directly with users and willing to travel for on-site collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship production-grade AI products end-to-end from framing to deployment.
• Work with customers in a forward-deployed manner to understand problems and iterate solutions.
• Lead technical scoping workshops interfacing with city leaders to solve problems.
• Contribute to roadmap involving data consolidation, real-time decision-making, and LLM experiences.
• Collaborate with product, data science, and operations to prioritize high-impact AI opportunities.
• Write clean, scalable backend and frontend code powering AI-driven features.
• Help shape the AI Labs culture and development processes.
• Stay on frontier of AI development and bring new tools to the team.
