Job summary

Via Transportation, Inc. is launching AI Labs and seeking a Staff Engineer to be a founding member of a new AI-focused team.

You will own AI product development end-to-end, from problem framing and data pipelines to deployment in live environments, partnering with city leaders and cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, agentic workflows. You will work closely with product, data science, and operations to identify high-impact opportunities across the business, writing clean, scalable backend

Qualifications

• 10+ years of hands-on experience building full stack applications and owning features end-to-end.
• 3+ years of working with AI tools and/or building AI powered products.
• Deep expertise across the AI stack, including LLMs, predictive modelling, and data infrastructure for real-world environments.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship production-grade AI products end-to-end - owning everything from problem framing and data pipeline design through to deployment and iteration in live environments.
• Lead technical scoping workshops interfacing with city leaders to solve challenging local problems with agentic workflows.
• Collaborate with product, data science, and operations teams to identify and prioritize high-impact AI opportunities.
