Job Title: Front-end Shift Supervisor

Department: Front-end

Reports To: Customer Service Manager

FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Summary:

This management-in-training role is vital because the front-end creates the first and last impressions for customers. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, communicative, and possesses strong people skills. Responsibilities include maintaining high morale, excellent customer service, cleanliness, and creating a welcoming environment. Key traits include good listening, leadership, empathy, self-motivation, supportiveness, and a sense of urgency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead by example, modeling correct behavior and policy adherence.
  • Perform cashier and courtesy clerk duties, including operating registers and handling customer groceries.
  • Assist with customer carry-out service and cart retrieval.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, organized work area.
  • Enforce policies, including liquor and tobacco laws, verifying IDs appropriately.
  • Train and develop employees on policies and procedures.
  • Address customer complaints and resolve issues to promote good relations.
  • Follow proper accounting procedures for transactions and cash handling.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures, including audits and paperwork.
  • Ensure safety standards are met and report hazards.
  • Maintain a clean and appealing front-end environment.
  • Manage inventory and merchandising of candy and other items.
  • Communicate supply needs to the manager.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and build relationships for repeat business.
  • Availability includes days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises 8-18 employees in the Front-end Department, following company policies and laws.

Customer Service Skills:

Must deliver extraordinary customer service, embodying respect, flexibility, and a positive attitude, exceeding customer expectations.

Education and/or Experience:

High School diploma or GED, or 3-6 months related experience/training, or equivalent.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently; effective in communicating with customers and staff.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to perform basic calculations, including discounts, interest, and percentages.

Reasoning Abilities:

Apply common sense and problem-solving skills to resolve conflicts and analyze situations.

Physical Demands:

Stand for long periods, walk, handle objects, reach, climb, lift up to 50 pounds, and have good vision. Noise level is moderate.
