Job summary

Norfolk Southern seeks qualified conductors to safely move freight trains, build and inspect trains, and manage equipment. You’ll receive comprehensive on-the-job training across various locations and be expected to work irregular hours with on-call availability.

The role requires strict safety compliance, physical ability to lift, and the ability to operate remote control locomotives while coordinating with dispatch and yard personnel.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation.
• Ability to report to work within 90 minutes.
• Clean driving record in the past 36 months (no suspensions for DUI/related incidents).
• No diversion/probation or guilty pleas for a drug- or alcohol-related incident.
• No refusal to undergo drug or alcohol tests.
• Pass FRA drug and alcohol screening.
• Work authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Build and inspect trains, railcars, and equipment for safe operation.
• Operate remote control locomotives and perform coupling, align drawbars, apply hand brakes.
• Communicate effectively with crews, dispatchers, and yard controllers.
• Maintain documentation and comply with FRA safety regulations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
