Job summary

Norfolk Southern is seeking a Train Conductor to safely manage the movement of freight trains, participate in extensive on-the-job training, and advance through a seniority-based system. You’ll join a union after completing training and may spend 2–3 days weekly away from home, with the potential for substantial earnings and comprehensive benefits.

Conductor Trainees start at a minimum per shift during training and progress to first-year earnings around six figures for experienced conductors,

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Must hold a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation.
• Ability to report to work within 90 minutes.
• Clean driving record in the past 36 months, without any suspension, revocation, cancellation, or denial from a drug/alcohol incident.
• Must not have been involved in diversion or probation or pleaded guilty to a drug/alcohol driving incident.
• Must not have refused a drug or alcohol test related to vehicle operation.
• Must pass pre-employment FRA drug and alcohol screening.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Build and inspect trains, railcars, and equipment for safe operation.
• Operate remote control locomotives and perform coupling, drawbar alignment, hand brake application, and railcar riding.
• Communicate effectively with crews, dispatchers, and yard controllers.
• Maintain accurate documentation and comply with FRA and company safety regulations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
