Job summary

Norfolk Southern is seeking a Train Conductor to safely move freight trains, build trains, and manage documentation. Training is provided, with a 20-week program including classroom, field, and on-the-job instruction.

You must be available 24/7, able to spend weeks away from home, and join the union after training. First-year earnings average around $70k, with higher figures for experienced conductors and related roles.

Qualifications

• Must pass FRA drug and alcohol screening.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation.
• Must be available to work on-call 24/7 with 90 minutes’ notice.

Responsibilities

• Build and inspect trains, railcars, and equipment for safe operation.
• Operate remote control locomotives and perform coupling and braking tasks.
• Communicate with crews, dispatchers, and yard controllers.
• Maintain documentation and comply with FRA regulations.
• Report to work within 90 minutes and have a clean driving record.
