Job summary

Norfolk Southern is seeking Train Conductors to safely move freight trains across long distances. Training consists of classroom and on-the-job instruction, with 24/7 availability and union membership after training. Trainees start with on-the-job training and progress through seniority to regular assignments.

Salary expectations include first-year averages around $70,000, with experienced conductors around $84,000 annually. Retention bonuses are offered with staged payments over the first year.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Must pass pre-employment FRA drug and alcohol screening.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Build and inspect trains, railcars, and equipment for safe operation.
• Operate remote control locomotives and perform coupling/uncoupling tasks.
• Communicate effectively with crews, dispatchers, and yard controllers.
• Maintain accurate documentation and comply with FRA safety regulations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
