Job summary

XPO Logistics, Inc. in Knoxville, TN is seeking a Freight Operations Supervisor to lead and supervise all aspects of freight operations.

You will develop and implement strategic work procedures to meet the evolving demands of the department and ensure workloads are evaluated, assigned and managed effectively. You will supervise hourly staff, manage tonnage and payroll, plan schedules to meet daily goals and reduce costs while enforcing FMCSR, OSHA, CCMTA, NSC and DOT policies.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of related work experience in warehouse, distribution, supply chain, transportation or similar environment.
• Knowledge of LTL industry, hazardous materials regulations and DOT rules and regulations.
• Bachelor’s degree or 4 years related work or military experience is preferred.
• 2 years of supervisory experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise all aspects of freight operations.
• Develop and implement strategic work procedures to meet department needs.
• Evaluate, manage, assign and supervise workloads and tasks.
• Supervise hourly staff across operations and act as primary contact for workplace concerns.
• Ensure production goals are met by managing tonnage, payroll and admin functions.
• Plan hourly employee schedules to meet daily ops goals and reduce costs.
• Enforce all policies and regulations (FMCSR, OSHA, CCMTA, NSC, DOT).
• Implement workplace policies and enforce compliance to optimize network performance.
• Ensure customer freight is processed, handled, loaded and delivered timely and damage free.
• Coach and develop employees, including new hire evaluations and corrective actions.
• Direct a team to meet or exceed productivity goals.
• Make recommendations regarding hiring, suspension and termination.
• Develop action plans to improve load average and model compliance.
• Participate in internal safety and engagement committees.
• Train employees on safety rules and processes.
• Maintain safety and productivity by organizing shift operations.
• Conduct daily staff meetings and communicate policies.
• Inspect tools and equipment for safe operation and address issues.
• Provide instruction and ideas for operational improvements.
• Champion XPO values and high standards.
• Minimize shipment rehandle by prioritizing direct loading and sector loading.
