Job summary

Forward Air Corp. seeks a Forklift Operator to safely load, unload, stage, and move freight within a multimodal terminal. You will operate forklifts and other MHE, and document cargo with handheld scanners.

The role requires forklift certification and 3+ years of dock experience, English communication, basic arithmetic, and a safety-first approach. Schedule: Mon–Fri, 6pm–close, onsite in Kansas City. This is an onsite position with potential for overtime.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• Valid forklift certification/licensure required or ability to obtain.
• 3+ years of dock or warehouse experience required.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing.
• Basic arithmetic and ability to verify freight counts and weights.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight using forklifts and other MHE.
• Move, stage, and position freight between dock doors and trailers.
• Pick, pack, and prepare items for shipping.
• Assist drivers with loading/unloading following safety procedures.
• Label, scan, and track freight with handheld devices.
• Identify damaged freight and report safety or equipment issues.
• Maintain a clean, safe dock environment.
• Learn equipment operation and safety protocols.
• Support dock productivity and overall operational goals.
• Work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
• Safely handle oversized or high-value freight.
• Train and mentor other Material Handlers.
• All other duties as assigned.
