Job summary

Pilot Thomas Logistics is seeking a Freight Analyst to optimize freight movements across internal and external carriers. You will benchmark costs, verify invoices, and ensure agreements are current and enforced. The role requires strong Excel and data reconciliation skills and attention to payment accuracy.

You will monitor market conditions, maintain vendor relationships, and escalate variances to secure timely payments while improving cost efficiency for PTL’s transportation network.

Qualifications

• 2-4+ years in freight analysis, logistics accounting, or transportation cost management.
• Experience auditing or processing carrier/vendor invoices against contracted rates.
• Strong Excel skills and data reconciliation ability.
• Ability to track invoice aging and flag bottlenecks in approval/payment cycles.

Responsibilities

• Analyze freight volumes, lanes, and costs across internal fleet and third‑party carriers.
• Benchmark internal fleet cost and efficiency against third‑party carrier rates.
• Provide freight cost/performance data to support carrier negotiations and network decisions.
• Verify third‑party vendor invoices against contracted rates, hauling agreements, and rate exhibits.
• Pull and reconcile freight data from Freight Analysis website table, carrier emails, and FSC tables.
• Approve invoices that match expected rates and terms; escalate variances ≥ $3,000.
• Maintain audit trail on holds, what varied, why, and how it was resolved.
• Ensure approved invoices move to payment on schedule and monitor aging.
• Serve as contact for vendors on disputes or payment status.
• Verify current, countersigned hauling agreement is on file for every carrier.
• Flag any carrier moving freight without an active agreement on hand.
• Monitor freight market conditions, fuel prices, and industry news that affect rates.
• Maintain knowledge of the carrier landscape relevant to PTL's regions and segments.
